Simply in Season: How to Flash Freeze Blueberries

It’s blueberry season in Michigan and we picked over 19 pounds a couple weeks back. Here’s how we preserve our berries.

Flash Freezing Blueberries

Wash the blueberries and allow to dry.

I spread the berries onto designated towels – they get a little stained, but it’s worth it.

After the blueberries have dried, place a single layer in a freezer-safe pan.

This time around I put multiple layers of berries in the same pan, separating each single layer with wax paper. It worked perfectly and allowed me to speed up the process.

Allow the blueberries to freeze overnight.

When the berries are frozen, remove from the pan and place in freezer containers or freezer bags. I’ve found that placing the freezer bag in a container to keep it upright makes it easier to fill.

Seal, label and put in your freezer to enjoy for the rest of the year.
